More on the dynamite...

Here is the current work on the dynamite. Mario has informed me of the best way of making the wheels detach and the wings shoot out from the sides. I was originally going to extrude the wings from the model itself, but upon reflection it is obvious that it will be easier to make the wings as a seperate object and have them grow out of the side using scale.
The wings will have movable flaps, and the hands on the clock have been made so they will rotate.

Added hinges to the suitcase. They may or may not be seen, depending on how far away the suitcase is from the camera when it is opened, but I like to add little touches.
Also, started on the dynamite. Simply made from cylinders and a tube for the strap so far. I am going to make two versions of this, one with wheels and one with wings and a jet pack. I do however need to ask how to make the coiled up cord on the fuses.

More suitcase

Suitcase almost done. Finished the latch and the handle, I think I'm getting the hang of this. I just need to find out how to make hinges on my object, so I can animate the lid opening and closing.

Suitcase

Shots so far of me making a suitcase.

Props

Finished objects, the chair and the golf club are completed, I believe. Although they obviously need textures, and I will be rendering them with material. I am now working on the suitcase, in particular the locking mechanism. When creating the suitcase, I need to remember that it will be opening up at the end of the animation, and therefore needs to have an inside, preferably large enough to hold all the items that Unluckyman will be using.

Chair part two.

...To solve this problem, I first deleted the large multisided polygon and replaced it with seperate polygons and a few triangles. This gave me a round shape that I could use for the bumpy bits. Following this, I had to work out how to make the cloth look bumpy, and turbosmooth was overdoing it. This was when Mario showed me how to use the NURMS subdivision thing, which smooths the object without adding extra polygons. Now I am currently on the way to making the back of the chair. I am adding the cushions seperately.

Chair part one.

I have gotten underway on the chair, but had some difficulty at first.
The first problem I stumbled across was making the right shape for the arm rest out of a box. This was simply solved, as seen in the second picture, by using a cylinder instead of a box. But then I was stuck as to how to make the bumpy bit on the front of the armrest. I need it to stick out a little, and make it look like it was a smooth bump, and the fabric was wrapped around.

Objects

Update. Over the last week the two main characters (Unluckyman and Happyman) and two sub characters (baby and kid) have been completed and are ready for rigging. Now, I have started on the props, but having difficulty. The first object I made was the bowling ball (bottom right) until I realised from my research that the holes were in the wrong position. So I remade the ball and this time, working off my research and concepts, made a correct ball (Top Right). This was relatively easy. Then I attempted the umbrella, and started with the canvas part (top left) until I realised that it was a) the wrong size and b) I hadn't worked out how the frame was going to look. So, I started again making the handle first and doing the frame, but this doesn't work either, cos the frame looks terrible. Mario has shown me how to multiply the canvas part so I can have 8 made of one, so I will work on this next.

Unluckymans clothes

Current progress on collar for Unluckyman.

Child

Child now completed, more or less. Although personally I think I may need to edit the top of his head, the eyebrow area doesn't look right.

I have made good progress on the clothing for Unluckyman, and with tuition I am starting to work the collar out. Here, I have extruded the edges that surround the neck out, up, and back to make it 3 dimensional. Now I will begin to work on the front part of the collar.

Kinda complete? Hmm?

Baby completed

Baby is completed and looking quite nice, so I have moved on to the child. At the moment, all I have done is the head and one sleeve for the arm, making sure to extrude the tshirt sleeve so it appears as though the arm comes out of the sleeve. I have also copied the same hand from the baby model to reuse in this one. The head was a fairly basic shape.

Baby baby, give me your answer true...

I have started work on my baby, and have gotten quite far quite fast, so I guess I must be getting faster at the process of model making. I only have the hand and foot left to do, and then I can mirror the body and attach it to the head. He was quite easy to make because he isn't wearing any clothes except a diaper, which was relatively easy to make.
Once the baby is done, I shall move on to some older children.

Difficulties

The clothes are becoming difficult. The file for Happyman seems to be corrupted and it crashes every time I open it, which means I may need to begin the clothes again. I am also having difficulty in working out how to make the collar for Unluckyman. I can't get my mind around how it should work. Basically, the collar needs to fold over, and go around the neck and back down the other side, making it very difficult. I just can't work out what to do for it, so I may take a break for a while and work on the baby.

Clothes

I have finished the clothes for Happyman. I started by highlighting the areas of the body that were to be clothed and expanding them as a seperate object, then editing the new objects to look like the clothes whilst still maintaining the same shape. I included a crease on the trousers and made sure there was a kind of 'lip' on the edges to give it a more 3 dimensional feel to it. Next I will do the clothes for Unluckyman.
Additionally, I have decided to edit my film somewhat. I am going to cut out the part with the fridge and just have the Happyman make a cake out of thin air. Here is a list of objects I need to make for my film:

Issues with the foot!

I had a little hiccup, I merged the foot I had made for Happyman from one file into Unluckymans file, hoping to reshape the general model. When I tried attaching it to the leg, it came up with this error message and I wasn't sure what it meant. Turned out it was something simple. I had merged in an already used shape so the ID was the same, or something. Easily fixed by pressing a button. Unluckyman is well under way now, I have his body and arm all sorted, soon be ready to finish it off!
